The Hampton Roads Academy Outstanding Alumni Service Award

Nominate an Alumnus

The Outstanding Alumni Service Award is presented to an alumnus/a in recognition of exemplary service to Hampton Roads Academy and advancement of the mission of the Academy. It may be earned for many years of accomplishment or for one noteworthy act. The award need not be presented every year.

It is bestowed to honor alumni who have given extraordinary time, energy, and wisdom through their volunteer efforts. The award was created by the Hampton Roads Academy Alumni Association in 1995.

All nominations must be in writing and should include pertinent information regarding the nominee. The nominator may be called upon to write the citation.

Eligibility

1. Current members of the faculty, staff, or Board of Trustees are not eligible to receive the award.

2. Only living candidates are considered. In the event of the death of a candidate between notification of the award and the award ceremony, the award may be given posthumously with the permission of the family and the selection committee.

3. Since the category “alumni” includes all who attended Hampton Roads Academy, not just those who graduated, the award is open to graduates and former students.

Information and Hints for Nominators of Alumni Award Candidates

1. The nomination must be kept secret from the candidate to avoid offending nominees who do not receive awards. Many fine people are nominated, and no one wants anyone to feel they’ve “lost” if they are not selected. Nominations initiated or completed by candidates are submitted to the selection committee but receive less serious consideration.

2. Nominations are considered for three (3) years. Additional information may be submitted at any time during the three years to the Director of Alumni Relations (tyevak@hra.org). If a nominee is not selected in the first year, their chances in subsequent years are increased if updated materials are submitted.

3. For consideration by the selection committee, completed nominations must be received by the Advancement Office by February 5 of this year.
